Michael Joo
Collaborated Project:
Michael Joo was born in 1966. He lives and works in New York. Using a
range of materials and media, and with an emphasis on process, Joo juxtaposes
humanity’s various states of knowledge and culture, addressing the fluid nature
of identity itself, and prompting us to question how and why we perceive the
world as we do. Joo exhibited at institutions around the world including the
Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.; Whitney Museum of American Art, New
York; Sharjah Biennial 12; Serpentine Gallery, London; and MIT’s List Visual
Arts Center, Massachusetts. Joo was a co-recipient of the grand prize at the
2006 Gwangju Biennial, and represented Korea at the Venice Biennale in 2001.
