About Vivien ZHANG

Vivien ZHANG is a London-based artist whose work traverses geographical and cultural boundaries. She earned a Master of Arts (MA) in Painting from the prestigious Royal College of Art in London in 2014. ZHANG's artistic journey is marked by a rich blend of influences from her upbringing in China, Kenya, and Thailand. ZHANG creates intricate oil paintings with repeated, abstracted forms, bright colours, as well as context-specific motifs. Through her art, she explores the themes of identity, social codes, contextual translation, and making paintings in an atemporal age. ZHANG was selected for the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia Class of 2017 and has exhibited internationally, most recently at CAPC (Bordeaux), the Hayward Gallery (London), and TANK (Shanghai).
