Image Core Sample is a manifesto as well as a celebration of the collection of Adrian Cheng, Founder and Honorary Chairman of the K11 Art Foundation, focusing on Chinese contemporary photography and video art from 1990 to 2014. Extending the subject matter explored in the exhibition .com/.cn, which is co-presented by the KAF and MoMA PS1, Image Core Sample investigates the various processes of image creation particularly through the mechanical perspective of an optical lens. The experiment of emphasising media archaeology allows for the selection of significant video and photography renditions, putting together an imposing array of images demonstrating the diverse forms of the canon of Chinese contemporary art.
